The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has stepped in to fund critical surgeries for 10-year-old Regina Agyeiwaa, who is battling a brain tumour at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Mrs. Gloria Precious Ankomah, Head of GoldBod’s Special Intervention Programme, presented a cheque of GHS 86,454.00 to the family on Monday to cover the cost of two urgent, life-saving operations.
Doctors at Korle Bu say the intervention comes at a crucial time. “This support ensures Regina can undergo the procedures without delay. Time is a major factor in cases like this,” a member of the medical team noted.
Regina’s family, visibly emotional during the presentation, expressed deep gratitude to GoldBod for the timely support. “We had no idea how we would raise this amount. GoldBod has given our daughter a chance,” a relative said.
Part of Broader Social Impact Drive
GoldBod said the gesture falls under its Special Intervention Programme, which targets healthcare and social support for vulnerable Ghanaians. The Board noted that beyond its mandate in the gold sector, it remains committed to community impact, especially in health emergencies where families face catastrophic costs.
The Board has in recent years funded medical bills, educational support, and disaster relief as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Regina is currently under observation at the Neurosurgery Unit of Korle Bu as doctors finalize preparations for the first surgery.
