Annoh-Dompreh Chairs Pan-African Parliament Health, Social, Work & Labour Committee

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, has been elected Chairperson of the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Affairs at the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), headquartered at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.

His election places Ghana at the forefront of one of the Parliament’s most critical committees, which is responsible for shaping policies on healthcare systems, labour rights and social protection across the African continent.

The Committee brings together a diverse representation of lawmakers from across Africa, reflecting the multilingual and multicultural nature of the Pan-African Parliament.

Members include Hon. Prof. Margaret Kamar (Kenya) as Vice-Chairperson, Hon. Mahmoud El-Sayed Mohamed Saad (Egypt), Hon. Philip Agbese (Nigeria), Hon. Dr. Arlete da Visitação Francisco Castro Borges (Angola), Hon. Justin Agbodjet (Benin), Hon. Dr. Kesitegile Gobotswang (Botswana), Hon. Safia Elmi Djibril (Djibouti), Hon. Sibongile Mamba (Eswatini), Hon. Mamello Phooko (Lesotho), Hon. Jean Nicolas Randrianasolo (Madagascar), Hon. Rosemarie Bangura (Sierra Leone), Hon. Gerry Sopha (Seychelles), Hon. Chidziva Happymore (Zimbabwe), Hon. Donatien Manirakiza (Burundi), Hon. Véronique Loembet Landou Nitou (Congo), Hon. Jose Eduardo-Moreno (Cape Verde), and Hon. Sen. Kouadio Kouakou Bertin (Côte d’Ivoire), among others.

Annoh-Dompreh’s elevation to Chairperson reflects the confidence reposed in him by fellow parliamentarians from across the continent and underscores the growing influence within the Pan-African Parliament.

The Committee operates in multiple working languages including English, French, Arabic and Portuguese, aligning with the African Union’s commitment to inclusivity and broad representation.

As Chairperson, Annoh-Dompreh is expected to lead discussions and guide policy direction on key continental issues such as access to healthcare, labour standards, employment creation, and social welfare systems.

His leadership comes at a critical time when African countries are seeking stronger collaboration to address public health challenges and improve the welfare of their citizens.

The Pan-African Parliament, as the legislative arm of the African Union, continues to play a vital role in promoting integration, democratic governance and development across member states.
