Government has announced temporary relief on fuel prices, absorbing GHS 2.00 per litre on diesel and GHS 0.36 per litre on petrol effective Wednesday, April 16, 2026.

The measure, approved by Cabinet, is aimed at cushioning households, transport operators, and businesses from rising petroleum costs driven by global market volatility. April 16 marks the start of the next pricing window.

One-Month Intervention
In a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the Presidency said the intervention will remain in force for one month.

“This intervention is intended to cushion customers and ease the cost burden on households, transport operators, and businesses,” the statement read.

It noted that the move responds to “rising prices of petroleum products on the international market, which have significantly impacted ex-pump prices in Ghana.”

Monitoring Global Market
Government said it will continue to closely monitor developments in the global oil market and assess the need for further policy adjustments during the period.

“Government remains committed to maintaining price stability, protecting livelihoods, and supporting Ghana’s economic recovery in the face of external shocks,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated.

The temporary subsidies come as international crude prices have climbed in recent weeks, pushing up local ex-pump rates and sparking concerns among commercial drivers and traders over transport fares and goods pricing.

The relief is expected to reflect at the pumps from April 16 across all Oil Marketing Companies.
