NHIA Intensifies Festival Intrusion Campaign in Volta Region
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has launched a renewed effort to educate residents in the Volta Region about the benefits of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Through its Corporate Affairs Directorate’s Brands and Marketing Unit, the NHIA team engaged with residents on Global FM’s Global Morning Show, highlighting the NHIS benefit package and measures to address illegal payments.
Importance of NHIS Card
NHIS Ho District Manager, Mr. Saviour Amakpa, emphasized the significance of the NHIS card, stating, “This exercise is to make our members understand and feel the relevance of NHIS within the Ho Municipality.” He added that the NHIA wants residents to know that the card still holds substantial benefits and that accredited health facilities cannot claim the NHIA owes them unless they fail to submit claims within the stipulated 90-day period.
Addressing Illegal Payments
Senior Manager of the Brands and Marketing Unit, Miss Alberta Naa Ode Okai, disclosed that the Authority had sanctioned Akim Oda Hospital for engaging in illegal payments. “The hospital was reprimanded and directed to refund the money,” she said. The NHIA operates a call center where members can report cases of being charged for services covered under the Scheme.
Engagement with Traditional Leaders
The NHIA team also participated in the Summit of Ewe Chiefs from Ghana, Togo, and Benin, extending its engagement to traditional leaders and strengthening community ties across the region. This effort aims to deepen the Authority’s presence and promote awareness of the NHIS benefit package.
