NPP’s Ernest Frimpong Denies Allegations of Influencing Delegates in Opposition Party’s Election

Amenfi East, – Ernest Frimpong, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Amenfi East, has strongly denied allegations made by the former Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency, Robert Gyan. Frimpong refuted claims that he influenced delegates in the NDC’s recent executive elections and engaged in vote-buying to secure victory for his preferred candidate. He called for Gyan to retract his accusations and issue an apology.

In an interview with King Ice TV on YouTube, Gyan insinuated that Frimpong played a role in his defeat, suggesting that the NPP candidate supported his opponent to ensure an easier victory for the NPP in the upcoming parliamentary elections. However, Frimpong categorically dismissed these claims as false and an attempt by Gyan to shift blame for his loss.

Frimpong provided several points to counter Gyan’s assertions. Firstly, he emphasized the close relationship he has had with Gyan throughout their constituency’s political activities, stating that Gyan is more than a political confidant to him compared to his opponent. Frimpong questioned how he could support someone he barely knows over someone he has known for a long time.

Secondly, Frimpong made it clear that he did not involve himself in the Amenfi East constituency elections of the NDC to influence delegates to vote for a particular candidate with the intention of selecting a weaker executive to secure victory for the NPP. He highlighted the democratic nature of governance, where the people have the prerogative to choose their leaders. Frimpong questioned Gyan’s suggestion that all the delegates who voted for his opponent were part of a plan to unseat their own MP.

Frimpong further emphasized that his support was for Gyan due to their long-standing relationship, and he would not engage in outcasting him for political reasons.

Frimpong called on Gyan to abandon his premature political outcry and instead respect the decision of the delegates. He stated that Gyan’s accusations not only impugned his integrity but also questioned the ability of the NDC delegates in the constituency to choose a candidate of their choice. Frimpong urged Gyan to withdraw his assertions and issue an unqualified apology within the next 72 hours. He warned that legal action would be taken if Gyan failed to act accordingly.

Frimpong concluded by reiterating his commitment to the Amenfi East constituency and expressed his belief that no political gimmicks could prevent the NPP from reclaiming power from the NDC in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary elections.

The NDC has yet to respond to Frimpong’s press release, and the situation remains tense as both parties prepare for the upcoming elections.
