As part of his campaign tour to the Eastern Region, Vice President and NPP presidential candidate for the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of the Akyem Kingdom, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, and the Okyeman Council on Wednesday.
Accompanied by NPP parliamentary candidate for Akyem Abuakwa South Constituency, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, current MP Samuel Atta Akyea, Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP Jeff Konadu, Sammy Awuku, Opare Ansah, and other campaign team members, Dr. Bawumia visited Mpraeso, Abetifi, and Kyebi, where he met with the Okyenhene and his Divisional chiefs.
Addressing the Okyenhene, Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude and sought blessings from the traditional leader, stating, “Osagyefo, I came to thank you and Okyeman, as well as my Boss, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, who identified me and made me who I am today.”
The Okyenhene, in his response, emphasized the importance of a peaceful election, stating that Ghanaians will vote for a candidate with a track record untainted by corruption. He assured Dr. Bawumia of Okyeman’s prayers and support.
Later that day, Dr. Bawumia addressed a mammoth rally at Akyem Asafo, where he urged voters to support him, promising to deliver on his campaign promises. He highlighted the NPP’s track record of fulfilling its promises and contrasted it with the NDC’s “mindset of impossibilities.” Dr. Bawumia also announced plans to introduce solar power to generate electricity, aiming to reduce electricity bills by 50%.
This campaign stop is part of Dr. Bawumia’s efforts to connect with traditional leaders and voters in the Eastern Region, as he seeks to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo as the NPP’s flagbearer in the 2024 general elections.
