NDC Condemns Unlawful Arrests and Inhumane Treatment of Peaceful Protestors

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a press statement strongly condemning the unlawful arrests of innocent citizens who were peacefully protesting against the misrule of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government. The party expresses deep concern over the erosion of democracy and the rule of law in Ghana, as citizens are being denied their fundamental human rights.

The arrest of peaceful protestors is not only a violation of their rights but also a clear indication of the deteriorating state of democracy in the country. The NDC firmly believes that citizens should be able to express their grievances peacefully without fear of persecution.

The NDC is particularly disturbed by reports that some of the unlawfully arrested protestors have had their phones illegally seized and have been subjected to beatings and other forms of inhumane and degrading treatment by the Ghana Police Service. Such actions are not only unacceptable but also go against the principles of justice and fairness.

The party demands the immediate release of all unlawfully arrested and detained protestors, emphasizing that it is the duty of the police to protect the rights and safety of citizens, not to infringe upon them. The NDC calls upon the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action and ensure that justice is served.

The NDC acknowledges the support and goodwill Ghanaians have shown towards the IGP since his appointment, but the party believes that the recent incidents of gross violations of human rights require urgent attention. The NDC urges the IGP to address these issues and hold those responsible accountable, as it is vital to restore faith in the Ghana Police Service.

The NDC stands firmly against any form of injustice and will continue to fight for the rights and freedoms of all Ghanaians. The party calls upon all well-meaning citizens to join them in condemning these unlawful arrests and demanding justice for the victims.

In conclusion, the NDC emphasizes the need for Ghana to uphold the principles of democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law. It is time for the country to unite in the pursuit of a just and fair society, where citizens can express their grievances without fear of persecution.
