Gomoa has witnessed one of the most remarkable Easter celebrations in recent memory as the maiden Gomoa Easter Carnival drew record-breaking crowds and positioned the area as an emerging cultural and tourism hub.

For four days, the enclave transformed into a vibrant centre of music, tradition and economic activity, attracting patrons from across the country and beyond. From Accra to Kumasi and Takoradi, as well as sections of the diaspora, thousands converged on Gomoa to experience what many are already describing as a landmark festival.

Hotels and guest houses were fully booked days ahead of the event, while transport operators recorded a sharp increase in travel to the area. Food vendors, artisans and small-scale traders also reported brisk business, highlighting the immediate economic boost brought by the carnival.

Grand opening sets the tone

The festival opened with colourful processions, traditional displays and community activities that reflected the rich cultural heritage of the Gomoa people.

Bonfires lit up the night sky in surrounding communities, symbolising unity and ushering in the celebrations. Cultural troupes entertained patrons with drumming, dancing and storytelling, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere that built steadily into the main events.

Largest durbar of chiefs steals the spotlight

A major highlight of the carnival was the grand durbar which brought together more than 15 paramount chiefs from across the Gomoa traditional areas and beyond.

Clad in kente and adorned with elaborate regalia, the chiefs arrived in a grand procession accompanied by linguists, stool bearers and traditional warriors. The display of colour, authority and tradition drew admiration from the large gathering and reinforced the importance of chieftaincy in community leadership and development.

The durbar also symbolised unity and a shared commitment to the growth of the Gomoa area.

Star-studded performances light up the carnival

Music became the heartbeat of the celebration, with some of Ghana’s biggest artistes delivering unforgettable performances across the four days.

Award-winning rapper Sarkodie thrilled fans with a commanding performance, taking the audience through a catalogue of hit songs that sparked massive sing-alongs.

Dancehall star Shatta Wale brought his signature energy to the stage, turning the venue into a frenzy as fans responded to his electrifying stagecraft.

Highlife sensation Kofi Kinaata connected deeply with the crowd, delivering a performance rich in storytelling and relatable themes.

Veteran rapper Okyeame Kwame showcased lyrical depth and experience, while Tinny brought nostalgia to life with classic hits that resonated strongly with fans.

Songstress Sista Afia added vibrancy to the lineup with an energetic performance that kept the crowd dancing.

Also on the bill were Kuami Eugene, whose hit songs drew loud sing-alongs, and gospel musician Obaapa Christy, who brought a moment of worship in line with the Easter celebration.

Each night saw thousands pack the Gomoa Ekwamkrom Community Park, creating an atmosphere of excitement that carried on late into the night.

Vision behind the carnival

The carnival is the brainchild of the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, whose vision is to position the area as a major destination for tourism, culture and investment.

Addressing patrons, he spoke about the need to drive development through job creation, industrial growth and the effective use of Gomoa’s coastal and land resources.

He proposed the establishment of a freezone enclave to attract investment and create opportunities, while encouraging young people to take an active role in shaping the future of the area.

His message gave the carnival a deeper meaning, turning it into a platform for both celebration and forward-looking dialogue.

A fitting finale and lasting impact

The final day brought the four-day celebration to a memorable close, with continued performances and community engagement that sustained the excitement to the very end.

As the curtains fell, there was a strong sense that the maiden edition had exceeded expectations and set a new standard.

The Gomoa Easter Carnival has not only delivered a successful event but has also laid the foundation for a lasting legacy, blending culture, entertainment and development into a powerful annual experience.

With strong patronage, national attention and a clear vision behind it, Gomoa has firmly placed itself on Ghana’s cultural and tourism map.
