Tricycle Gang Ambush: Four Arrested After Brutal Robbery Attack on Okada Rider in Fomena

Police at Fomena in the Ashanti Region have arrested four individuals in connection with a violent robbery incident involving a commercial motorcyclist.

The arrests were made on Saturday, February 22, 2026, following a report lodged at the Fomena Police Station by the victim, who sustained a machete injury during the attack.

According to police sources, the rider had just dropped off a passenger at Old Ayaase and was heading back when he was allegedly ambushed along a stretch of the road. He told investigators that approximately ten tricycle operators had blocked the route using their tricycles and other objects, preventing him from passing.

The group reportedly assaulted him and slashed his left toe with a machete before bolting with his unregistered Haojin motorbike, estimated to be worth GH¢15,000.

In a swift response, officers under the Ashanti South Regional Police Command tracked down and apprehended four suspects within the Fomena township later that same day. The suspects have been identified as Adom Peter, Abdul Zakari, Andy Benjamin, and a juvenile whose name has been withheld.

A police search operation led to the recovery of the stolen Haojin motorcycle, a machete believed to have been used in the attack, a tricycle, and its ignition keys.

The Regional Command has reaffirmed its determination to safeguard residents and their property. Authorities are urging members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely information to help curb criminal activities in the area.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
