“Taxi Scam Uncovered: Three Suspects in Custody for Phone Snatching”
Accra, Ghana – January 13, 2026: The Ghana Police Service has arrested three individuals allegedly involved in a syndicate that uses taxi cabs to snatch mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting passengers.
The suspects, identified as Sasu Lawrence (aka Agbe), Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti (aka Survivor), were apprehended on January 12, 2026, following intelligence-led operations.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the group operates mainly during the early hours of the day, posing as regular taxi drivers. Reports suggest that two suspects occupy the front seats while another sits in the back, ready to carry out the theft.

When a passenger, mostly women, boards the taxi, the suspects reportedly lock the doors, making it difficult for the victim to exit. While the victim struggles to open the door, the back-seat suspect pretends to assist and allegedly seizes the opportunity to steal mobile phones or wallets.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Authorities are also working to identify and apprehend those involved in receiving and trading the stolen items.

The Ghana Police Service has urged commuters to remain vigilant, report suspicious taxi activities, and avoid traveling in taxis that appear unsafe.
