Bryan vows Unity, focuses on jobs… submits nomination form for NPP flagbearer race

By: Isaac Boamah Darko

Senior New Patriotic Party (NPP) financier and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong on Tuesday formally submitted his nomination form to run for the party’s flagbearer position, telling supporters he is ready to “offer himself fully” for the party and the nation.

Speaking after filing his papers, Bryan opened his remarks with the Akan greeting “Nyame asomdwe nka mo o!” and described his candidacy as the culmination of months of reflection, prayer and consultation with family and stakeholders. He said an Exploratory Committee had evaluated how his vision aligns with the aspirations of the party and the Ghanaian people, and that he had subsequently formed a team to join him on the campaign trail.

“I share this exciting news with you, with clarity in my mind, energy in my body, and duty in my spirit,” Acheampong said. “I speak as a servant ready to offer himself fully once again — for party, for country, for a future that must belong to all of us.”

The candidate recounted his humble beginnings as the son of a teacher who grew up in Mile 7 and rose to build businesses and a career in politics. He stressed his experience at grassroots level and in government service, saying he has been “tested in difficult moments — and I have delivered.”

Acheampong outlined priorities he intends to champion if he wins the party’s ticket: jobs, food security and infrastructure. He also placed emphasis on mobilising young people, promising to “remobilise the youth of this country and channel them to opportunity, unearthing their talent for prosperity.”

A call for unity and discipline

Throughout his remarks Acheampong framed his bid as a call for unity within the NPP. “Having now submitted my form to run as Flagbearer of the NPP effectively means I have submitted my declaration for UNITY, for a DISCIPLINED CAMPAIGN,” he said, urging his supporters to “shy away from comments and commentary that smears individuals and ultimately affects the fortunes of our Party.”

He invoked the party’s symbol — the elephant — and called on members to rally behind the rebuilding of the party, saying, “Starting with the great Elephant Party, today I commit to join forces to continue the rebuilding of our Party. We reignite our base, who are the heart and soul of our Party, and unite our family once again.”

Acheampong said he stands “not only to stand for Flagbearer, which I know, Inshallah I shall win, but also to remobilise the youth” and to win power for the NPP. He closed by praying for the party and the country: “Thank you. God bless the New Patriotic Party. And God bless our beloved Ghana.”

What comes next

Bryan’s formal entry adds another name to what is expected to be a competitive NPP flagbearer contest. The party will now proceed with its nomination and vetting processes ahead of the internal election that will determine its candidate for the next general election. Party members and political observers will be watching how Acheampong’s unity message and policy priorities resonate with delegates and grassroots supporters as the race unfolds.
