Fertilizer Fight Turns Fatal: 2 Killed, 4 Injured in NPP-NDC Clash in Akumadan

Two people are dead and four others injured after a clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Offinso North Constituency. The violence erupted on Monday morning at Akomadan cocoa shed in the Ashanti region over the sharing of fertilizers.

According to reports, Fred Gyei Asamoah, the newly elected NPP member of Parliament, had promised to distribute fertilizers to the electorate after the elections. However, NDC supporters arrived at the cocoa shed, demanding that the fertilizers be given to farmers rather than NPP party members. The situation escalated into chaos, resulting in the deaths of two suspected NDC supporters.

This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous clashes between NPP and NDC supporters over resources. For instance, in Salaga, a violent brawl broke out between supporters of both parties over the arrival of District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment. The East Gonja Municipal Security Committee had to intervene to restore order.

The recent clash in Offinso North highlights the tensions between political parties in Ghana, particularly during election periods. The violence has sparked concerns about the need for peaceful political activities and the responsible distribution of resources
