Polling Station Delegates likely to Elect Alan on November 4th – Prof Gyampo

Senior lecturer at the Political Science Department, University of Ghana, Professor Yaw Gyampo has called on the camp of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia not to assume it is a done deal in the presidential race ahead of the November 4 showdown.

The celebrated political science lecturer and a known face in Ghana’s geopolitical settings argued that the vintage win by the Vice President in the just ended Super Delegates does not necessarily point at an imminent win for the Veep.

He argued that the 66% plus Super delegates that voted for the Vice President were whipped by the system to either keep their position and follow a given trend.

The renowned political science lecturer opined that the dynamics at the general delegates conference and that of the limited Super Delegates conference are entirely different since the grass root voters could not whipped like their superiors.

In his usual Facebook updates on political trends in Ghana, professor Gyampo described the just ended super delegates results as politically made by the governance and the institution at large.

The detailed opinion from Professor Yaw Gyampo is seen below:
“I have seen the first three winners in the NPP Super-Delegates Elections. My preliminary thoughts are that, nothing is surprising about the placements of 1-3. The majority of the delegates were “politicallly made” by the establishment and their continuous stay in office as appointees, and even as elected people, is based on the support of the establishment. They couldn’t have varied their votes.

Ken also garnered his kind of great show among those who felt they could get his support in terms of money in their future electoral and political endeavors. He could be a kingmaker and would easily nominate some of these guys for positions. But what makes him a serious force in the future is that, he is also a very much grassroots person.

So, our Veep cannot be complacent because the real kingmakers will be at the grassroots where both Alan and Ken are likely to make huge incursions, according to very scientific data on the NPP delegate preferences. He, Alan and Ken must therefore work harder.

The future of the NPP Presidential Aspirant race is heavily pregnant with definitely hugely uncertain possibilities. More work must be done by Veep to get to the grassroots; more work must be done by Alan to win more people at the top as he’s likely to put up a better show among the grassroots in November; and Ken, the maverick, must work harder to appeal to both segments of the delegates.

Those who have just voted can still change their mind towards any direction; no one must be complacent and no one must give up. Delegates at the grassroots must remain fired up to decide who must lead the party according to ONLY THEIR CONSCIENCE, and never the outcome of the just ended exercise.

In the Super Delegates conference where voters had direct positions either in governance or at the party level, voting was done to protect their positions or appointments, according to Professor Yaw Gyampo.
At the end of the 1-day poll, Vice President, HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia polled 66.1% as against the expected 85% endorsement whiles Hon. Kennedy Ohene Adjapong sneaked into the second position ahead of Hon. Alan Kyerematent. Former Agric Minister, Hon Owusu Afriyie Akoto secured a fourth-place finish to make the final list for the November 4, 2023 showdown.
