Accra – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the government to prioritize justice for the late JB Danquah, amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson. In a press release issued by the Legal Directorate of the NDC, they accused the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, of engaging in selective justice and urged him to treat all cases equally.
The NDC’s statement comes in response to a recent press release by the Attorney General, in which he defended the high-profile political prosecutions he is currently undertaking. The cases mentioned in the press release include the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson, Dr. Stephen Opuni, and Carssiel Ato Forson.
The Legal Directorate of the NDC questioned the reasonableness and justification of these prosecutions, stating that they are perceived as persecution rather than genuine prosecution aimed at upholding the rule of law. They argued that while the Attorney General may present legal arguments and evidence to support his actions, the ordinary observer sees these cases as politically motivated.
The NDC emphasized the importance of freedom of speech, a constitutional right that they believe the Attorney General should uphold. However, they criticized the lack of action and delay in cases such as Menzgold, where numerous Ghanaians have suffered significant financial losses. They called for the speedy trial of Nana Appiah Mensah, the owner of Menzgold, to ensure justice for the affected customers.
The NDC also raised concerns about the delayed prosecution in cases such as Ahmed Suale, Major Mahama, and JB Danquah, which they believe deserve equal attention and swift resolution. They questioned the principles of law applied in these cases and called for consistent treatment of all individuals involved.
The press release highlighted the advice given by prominent personalities, including the Domaahene and former Attorneys General, Hon. Ayikwei Otoo and Hon. Marietta Brew, who have advised the Attorney General to discontinue the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson. The NDC urged the Attorney General to listen to this advice and avoid further controversy.
The recent election results in Asin North, where James Gyakye Quayson won, were also mentioned as a clear message from the people that they support him. The NDC called on the Attorney General to consider the will of the people and halt the prosecution.
The NDC concluded their statement by emphasizing the need for justice to be pursued in all cases, including Menzgold, Ahmed Suale, Major Mahama, and JB Danquah. They called for equal treatment and a speedy trial in these cases to ensure that justice is served for all individuals involved.
As the controversy surrounding the prosecution of James Gyakye Quayson continues, the NDC’s call for justice and equal treatment highlights the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring fairness in the legal system. The government now faces the task of addressing these concerns and demonstrating its commitment to justice for all.
