By Isaac Boamah Darko
Obaapayin Grace Koomson — widely known by the sobriquet Akua Nkumah and the mother of Awukugua Twafohene Nana Asiedu Keteke — expired on Tuesday, 6 January 2026, at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital following a brief ailment. She was 75 years old.
Born on 7 March 1951 in Agona Asafo, within the Agona East District of the Central Region, Mrs. Koomson commenced her education at Agona Asafo L/A 1 Primary School and continued through the junior high level. The premature demise of her parents obliged her to discontinue formal schooling; she thereafter entered commercial enterprise to sustain herself and kin.

Through perseverance and industriousness she established a sterling reputation in her locality, becoming widely respected for her resilience, humility and civic-mindedness. Her contribution to communal life made her a familiar and venerated figure across Agona Asafo and the wider Agona East District.
Mrs. Koomson is survived by five children and an extended network of relatives. Among her offspring are prominent community and media figures, including Awukugua Twafohene Nana Asiedu Keteke, who is reported to be in mourning. The bereavement has occasioned palpable sorrow throughout the district, with expressions of condolence being conveyed by neighbours, traditional leaders and acquaintances.
Funeral and memorial arrangements have not yet been finalised; family sources indicate that traditional and commemorative rites will be announced in due course. Further information will be provided as details are confirmed.
