Vice Admiral Issah Yakubu Officially Retires from Ghana Navy, Commits to Continued Regional Service
Today, 5 January 2026, I officially retire from the Ghana Navy, following nine months of terminal leave after leaving office in March 2025.
The past months have been an exciting and reflective period, one of transition, exploration, and preparation for this auspicious day. Stepping away from active naval service after a fulfilling career has opened new horizons, and I can confidently say the journey so far has been both energising and purposeful.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all my colleagues, associates, mentors, partners, friends, and the outstanding sailors of the Ghana Navy, whom I had the privilege of leading over the last four years of my career, and who walked this journey with me – those who supported me throughout my naval career and those who have continued to encourage and stand by me as I explored new and equally important avenues beyond uniformed service.
As one chapter closes, another opens with renewed commitment to service, impact, and leadership. I look forward to making an even greater contribution in this next phase of life, particularly through my work with the Gulf of Guinea Maritime Institute (GoGMI), advancing maritime security, governance, and the blue economy across our region.
I look forward to working with many of you again, this time in new capacities and with shared purpose.
Vice Admiral Issah Yakubu (Rtd)
