Police Arrest Five for Impersonating NAIMOS Officials

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects for allegedly posing as officials of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and extorting money from miners in the Eastern Region.

The suspects — Moses Tapiam (43), Christopher Amakor (29), Casimir Nunekpeku (29), Wisdom Miwonuko (35), and Paul Agbanu (53) were picked up on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Akwadum in the Abuakwa South Municipality near Kibi.

Police say the suspects, dressed in security uniforms, moved from one mining site to another claiming to be NAIMOS operatives from Accra and demanding money from miners.

They were arrested by a genuine NAIMOS team while travelling in a Mitsubishi 4×4 pickup vehicle with registration number GS 536-25 and handed over to the Eastern South Regional CID in Kibi.

The police have warned against impersonating security officers, describing it as a criminal offence. The suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.
