GOLDBOD Rejects Claims It Lost Over GHC3 Billion

By: Isaac Boamah Darko

Accra — The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has strongly denied a recent report by Asaaseradio that alleged the statutory body recorded losses exceeding GHC3 billion in its first year of operations, saying the claim is “entirely false and deliberately contrived.”

In a statement issued on Monday, GoldBod said the publication was intended to “undermine the successes and significant contribution of the GoldBod to the revitalization of Ghana’s economy.” The board stressed that, contrary to the radio station’s report, it has been generating “significant surpluses/profit” since its establishment.

“The publication under reference is entirely false and deliberately contrived to undermine the successes and significant contribution of the GoldBod to the revitalization of Ghana’s economy,” the statement said. GoldBod added that quarterly financial statements, which will be published on the board’s official website soon, “will bear this fact out.”

GoldBod also urged the public to treat the Asaaseradio report “with utmost contempt” and called on the management of the station to retract the story and render “an unqualified apology to the general public for such misleading and unethical publication.”

The Board’s rebuttal comes as questions about transparency and performance have become central to public debate around newly established institutions. GoldBod’s promise to publish quarterly financial statements aims to provide documentary evidence to counter the loss claims, though those documents have not yet been released.

Asaaseradio had reported that GoldBod suffered losses of more than GHC3 billion in its first year. The radio station did not immediately respond to requests for comment on GoldBod’s denial.

Observers say the coming release of audited or official financial reports will be key to resolving the dispute over GoldBod’s financial performance. For now, GoldBod insists its operations have contributed positively to Ghana’s economic revitalization and that the negative figures circulating in the media are baseless.
