Police seize 18 compressed slabs of suspected Indian hemp in KFC drop-off

Ashaiman, Tema Region — Police arrested a man and recovered 18 compressed slabs of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp after a sack of cassava was dropped outside a fast-food outlet in Ashaiman on Friday night, the Ashaiman District Police Command said.

According to the police, intelligence from the Ho Regional Command on Friday, October 31, 2025, at about 9:10 p.m. indicated that the driver of a commercial bus had been detained in possession of compressed packages suspected to be narcotics and that the intended receiver was in Ashaiman. Officers tracked the receiver, identified as 31-year-old Francis Alidu, and arrested him at the Ashaiman KFC.

While Alidu was being questioned, police said, he took a call from another commercial driver who told him a sack of cassava had been left in front of the restaurant for delivery. Officers recovered the sack, searched it in Alidu’s presence and found 18 compressed slabs hidden inside that are suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect is being held for alleged contravention of section 37(1) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), the statement added. Police said Alidu will assist in identifying and arresting the other receiver he named during interrogation and will be handed over to the Ho Regional Police for further investigation.
