‘It’s Still Bawumia!’ – 72% of NPP delegates affirm their support – Global InfoAnalytics
A new nationwide poll by Global InfoAnalytics has revealed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia retains an overwhelming majority of support from voters who backed him in the 2024 general elections, solidifying his position as the frontrunner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearership race.
The September 2025 poll, which focused on the preferences of NPP voters, found that a staggering 72% of those who voted for Dr. Bawumia (DMB) in the last presidential election still prefer him to lead the party into the next electoral cycle. His closest contender, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (KOA), trails significantly with 20% preference among this crucial demographic.
The data indicates that Dr. Bawumia’s core base remains not just intact, but fiercely loyal. When over seven out of ten of your previous voters are still with you, it provides a very strong foundation for a leadership bid.
Dr. Bawumia’s stronghold is even more pronounced in the party’s traditional heartland, the Ashanti Region. The poll shows that 73% of NPP voters in the region who chose DMB in 2024 continue to support his flagbearership ambition, compared to 20% for KOA.
However, the poll also explored the sentiments of disgruntled NPP voters who switched allegiance to the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama (JDM) in the 2024 elections. Nationally, this group remains more divided, with 39% preferring DMB and 36% leaning towards KOA.
Yet, a surprising trend emerged from the Ashanti Region among these disgruntled voters. A clear majority of 63% who voted for JDM in 2024 now prefer Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP, with only 21% supporting KOA. This suggests the Vice President is making significant inroads in winning back the party’s estranged base in a critical region.
The Ashanti numbers are particularly telling, It shows Dr. Bawumia is not only consolidating his own support but is also the most compelling figure to reunify the party’s core voters in its stronghold.
As the NPP prepares for its internal elections in January 2026, the Global InfoAnalytics team has announced it is commencing its October 2025 delegates polls. This subsequent survey will assess the proportion of actual delegates who voted for each leading candidate and determine if they are switching their allegiance, providing an even clearer picture of the race’s trajectory.
For now, the September data paints a clear picture: Dr. Bawumia’s base is rock solid, providing him with formidable momentum as the flagbearership contest enters a critical new phase.
