Stop Feeling Sorry- Afenyo-Markin To NPP
By: Isaac Boamah Darko
The New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Saturday, 19th July 2025, delivered a political masterclass, transforming the very notion of electoral setback into a powerful launchpad for an undeniable resurgence. In an electrifying address, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin not only rallied his party to unshakeable unity but also launched a devastating, fact-based assault on the ruling NDC’s “betrayals,” all while powerfully defending the NPP’s own heroic stewardship through unprecedented global crises.
The National Delegates Conference buzzed with an invigorated resolve as Afenyo-Markin, with unshakeable conviction, declared their 2024 loss not a failure, but a “crucible moment” – a refining fire from which a stronger, more disciplined force will emerge, perfectly poised for a 2028 triumph. He passionately laid bare the NDC’s immediate and crushing impact on Ghana since taking office, starting with the immediate, burdening GHC1 per litre fuel levy that has spiked pump prices, directly hurting ordinary Ghanaians. “Barely months into their tenure, the betrayal of the NDC is glaring!” he thundered, his words echoing across the nation.

NDC’S BROKEN PROMISES & JUDICIARY ASSAULT UNMASKED!
Afenyo-Markin systematically dismantled the NDC’s credibility, highlighting their abject failure on key promises. He revealed the chaotic collapse of their much-touted galamsey (illegal mining) pledge, now a “national emergency” that the President “refuses to declare a state of emergency.” Even more alarming, he exposed what he called a “brazen assault on our judiciary,” commencing with the “shameful vilification of our Chief Justice” – a direct threat to the very foundations of the rule of law.
The Minority Leader pulled no punches, accusing the NDC of a “sham” promise of change, citing “schemes afoot to funnel our mineral wealth to the President’s cronies.” He vividly recalled the “questionable Ablekuma North rerun,” where “NDC-affiliated thugs attacked our candidate Nana Akua Afriyie, former MP Hawa Koomson, and journalists,” exposing the ruling party’s shocking “willingness to trample democracy with violence.” The message from the NPP leadership is chillingly clear: “NDC is a failure, and Ghana deserves better!”
NPP’s HEROIC STEWARDSHIP: THRIVING DESPITE UNPRECEDENTED GLOBAL STORMS!
In a powerful defense of the NPP’s eight years in power, Afenyo-Markin delivered a critical counter-narrative, reminding delegates and the nation of the extraordinary “perfect storm of adversity” that no Fourth Republic government had ever faced. He meticulously detailed the unprecedented challenges the NPP navigated:
• The crippling banking crisis inherited, which “threatened to collapse our financial system,” and which the NPP bravely spent billions fixing, restoring confidence and stability.
• The devastating global COVID-19 pandemic that brought the world to its knees, straining economies worldwide.
• The escalating Russia-Ukraine war, unleashing the “harshest cost-of-living crisis in a generation” across the globe.
• And through it all, the NPP courageously governed with the added burden of a hung parliament and an opposition Speaker, yet still “held the line.”
“No government in our democratic history faced this scale of compounded crisis,” Afenyo-Markin declared, “Yet, with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the driving seat, we held the line. We do not downplay the struggle the Ghanaian people had to endure… [but] we should not be shy of the mighty gains we made under very difficult circumstances.” He championed the NPP’s legacy, highlighting the fixed crisis, stronger GDP growth, historic gold and foreign exchange reserves (now being relied upon by the current administration!), job creation, unprecedented road networks, the globally lauded Free SHS, 1D1F industrialization, and a visionary digitalization drive.

UNSTOPPABLE UNITY: THE ‘MODI MODEL’ FOR VICTORY!
Afenyo-Markin’s address was a profound rallying cry for absolute, unyielding NPP unity. “We cannot—we must not—allow 2024 to become the year that destroyed the NPP!” he proclaimed, setting a defiant tone for the party’s future.
He brilliantly invoked the extraordinary comeback of India’s Narendra Modi – from “global pariah to world statesman” – as the blueprint for the NPP’s inevitable return to power. The party, he declared, will rise on four foundational pillars: Unbreakable Unity, Unyielding Values, Grassroots Mobilization Reinvented, and Authentic Rebranding through Success.
“THE NPP IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL!”
This was more than a speech; it was a leadership clinic, instilling discipline and a collective purpose. Afenyo-Markin’s unequivocal message – that “ambition must never override party loyalty” and “No individual is bigger than the NPP!” – has resonated as a defining moment, solidifying the party’s unwavering focus on national service. He urged an end to “hate campaigns and subtle sabotage,” demanding unity over ego, and party over self.
As videos of the impactful address surge across social media, the public reaction is overwhelmingly one of admiration and hope. Commentators praise the Minority Leader for his decisive leadership and for articulating a clear, confident vision for Ghana’s future under NPP stewardship, contrasting sharply with the “failures” of the current NDC government and demonstrating the NPP’s proven ability to perform even under the most extreme duress.
The NPP has emphatically signalled its intent: a stronger, more unified, and strategically brilliant party is emerging from its “crucible moment,” poised for an undeniable return to leadership in 2028. The nation watches as the elephant prepares its majestic stride back to the helm, ready to rescue Ghana from the clutches of current mismanagement.
