Kidnappers Demand GHC500K Ransom For Hairdresser’s Release
A 39-year-old Ama Serwaa Konadu, a hairdresser and decorator from Akyem Asiakwa, in the Akyem Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region Ghana has been kidnapped by unknown assailants. Family members report that Ama Serwaa left her home on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, to conduct her regular market activities but failed to return.

The situation escalated when Ama’s sister received alarming videos from her sister’s phone on the same day. These videos suggested that Ama had been kidnapped, with the captors claiming to be hiding in Nigeria. The following day, on April 23, the family received another distressing video featuring Ama in a compromised state, with the kidnappers demanding a ransom of GHC 500,000 for her release.
In response to the abduction, the family has formally lodged a report with the Ghana Police Service, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and the National Security to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the ongoing investigation in a tweet on Tuesday, April 29, stating, “The Ghana Police Service is investigating an alleged case of kidnapping and assault of a female adult captured in a viral video.”
Tragically, a video obtained by The Metro Lens Newspaper shows a harrowing scene of the victim, appearing full-naked and being assaulted with a machete, blood visibly oozing from her wounds. The graphic nature of the footage has raised concerns about her safety and the urgency of the situation.
As the investigation unfolds, the family and community remain hopeful for Ama Serwaa’s safe return, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist the authorities in their efforts to locate her.
