Metro Lens Publication Provokes Ministerial Action on Ofankor-Nsawam Road Conditions
By Isaac Boamah Darko
Following concerns highlighted in The Metro Lens on March 5, 2025, regarding the deteriorating conditions of the Ofankor-Nsawam Road, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, conducted an on-site inspection and directed contractors to ensure the road remains passable during construction.

Minister Agbodza stressed the importance of regular grading and watering of the road to alleviate difficulties faced by motorists. His intervention comes in response to numerous complaints from drivers about the road’s poor state and the sluggish pace of the ongoing rehabilitation project.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the project, despite existing financial challenges. He highlighted President Mahama’s dedication to finishing all ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Ofankor-Nsawam road rehabilitation, which has an estimated budget of GH¢ 341.48 million.

Project Manager Ing. Abdulai Mahama explained that delays in the project have stemmed from complications related to compensation, utility relocations, and ongoing legal disputes. He noted that approximately 80 court cases are currently being managed by the contractor in collaboration with the Ghana Highway Authority.

The rehabilitation of the Ofankor-Nsawam road, which commenced in July 2022, aims to enhance the 33.4-kilometer segment of the Accra-Kumasi road network.
