WILL THE BUDGET LEAVE US BEHIND OR CARRY ALL OF US ALONG? Honourable Finance Minister We want Answers.

The budget is a statement of our collective needs and wants in the Country. The 2025 to 2026 budget proposal must make strides in upholding previous commitments and increase investment to meet pressing needs of Ghanaians both home and abroad. We are expecting the new leaders to closely scrutinize the billions of Ghana cedis on exemptions that primarily benefit profitable business and other governmental entities as said by the current finance minister last year.

We are going to see the Mahama administration and how it will prioritize polices – and reasonably raise revenues – to help families make ends meet and empower the youth to thrive in this country. The new finance minister has to safeguard Ghana’s future, and adopt more proactive revenue strategies to strengthen and protect essential services in Ghana, like health care, health insurance, poverty reduction programs, energy and climate resilience, all levels of education, and public transportation for the over 33 million people.

Dr. Ato Forson made numerous claims that the NPP government was misguided, and that E-Levy must be scrapped along with Covid Levy. We are hoping that the new budget will not further weaken the capacity of Ghana to help manage high cost of living. We will wait to see how they will manage the economy now that they are in power. Honorable finance minister had many proposals whiles in opposition now he must sustain pensions, investments, insurance sector, mining, agriculture, health and education for us to see. It is time to show working.

Will the budget adequately address critical gaps for those of us with low income in Ghana. The many issues of the country, highlights the need for more significant action in order to build an equal access to all government services; we need to be more equitable. Finance minister must champion policies that uplift all of us during this time to global economic challenge. Will many people be left behind or not? We are all waiting for the promised elimination of taxes (exemptions, e-levy, covid-levy, etc). We are expecting new commitment to bold investment and a vision for a shared prosperity not just shared burden. We are patiently waiting to see the budget and how it addresses the reduction of government expenditure, removal of wasteful taxes and revenue generation by government. Thanks.
