Return Diplomatic and Service Passports – Mahama to NPP Appointees

In a significant move aimed at reinforcing the integrity of the nation’s diplomatic engagements, the government has announced the recall of all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration. This initiative underscores the current administration’s commitment to upholding national and international standards in the management of official travel documents.

The Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., made the announcement in a formal request outlining the steps necessary to facilitate the recall process. The primary goal is to prevent any potential misuse of these passports and to protect the country’s reputation on the international stage.

To ensure a smooth transition, the Ministry has been instructed to undertake the following actions:

1. Public Notice: A notification will be issued to all holders of the affected passports, instructing them to return the documents to the Ministry for verification and possible re-issuance.
2. Compliance Deadline: A deadline has been set for compliance, with all passports to be returned by January 24, 2025. This timeline aims to provide ample opportunity for individuals to respond to the recall.
3. Verification Process: Upon receiving the returned passports, a comprehensive review will be conducted to ensure that they meet the current eligibility criteria for issuance.

Dr. Mahama emphasized that the cooperation of all passport holders is essential to maintain the credibility and efficiency of the country’s passport system. He urged individuals to act promptly in returning their documents and reassured them that his office is available for any further clarification or assistance needed during this process.

This recall initiative reflects the administration’s proactive approach to safeguarding the integrity of its diplomatic missions and ensuring that official travel documents are utilized appropriately.
