Prez. Mahama Signals Changes in Statutory Boards
Date: January 8, 2025
Following the recent presidential transition, all members of statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils appointed by the previous administration have officially ceased to hold office as of January 7, 2025. This announcement comes in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), following the inauguration of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.
The formal notice issued by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, clarifies that this cessation of office applies to all appointees of the former President and former Ministers of State. However, it notably excludes commissions that are independent constitutional entities, which will remain unaffected by this transition.
As the new administration moves forward, the affected boards, commissions, councils, and statutory corporations will be reconstituted in line with their respective enabling laws. The President expressed gratitude to all outgoing members for their service, wishing them well in their future endeavors.
In light of this transition, management teams of these bodies have been instructed to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any major decisions, ensuring a smooth and orderly transition of authority.
The changes mark a new chapter in governance as President Mahama’s administration begins to take shape, with expectations of fresh leadership and direction across various statutory bodies.
As the public awaits the reconstitution of these entities, the focus will now shift to how the new appointments will align with the President’s vision for the nation and its governance.
