Mahama Revokes Appointments Of MMDCE’s And Appointee Assembly Members
President John Dramani Mahama, who took office yesterday, in a statement signed by Callistus Mahama, PH.D. Secretary To The President has revoked the appointments of Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, as well as Assembly Members appointed under the Local Governance Act.
This decision, effective immediately, was made in accordance with the powers vested in the President under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and its amendment, the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940)
In the interim, Coordinating Directors of the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have been directed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are made.
This move is seen as a significant shake-up in the local governance structure, and it remains to be seen how the new appointments will shape the country’s development agenda.
The revocation of appointments is a common practice during transitions of power.
The Presidency has directed all affected parties to take note and act accordingly.
