SIGA Applauds State Housing Company’s Efforts to Address Housing Deficit

In a resounding endorsement of its transformation, the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA) has praised the State Housing Company (SHC) for its consistent profitability over the past six years. At the 2024 SIGA Stakeholder Engagements held at Rock City Hotel in Kwahu, SHC’s remarkable turnaround was hailed as a shining example for other state-owned enterprises to emulate.

Guest of honor, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commended SHC’s leadership and team for their hard work and dedication, emphasizing the importance of the company’s transformation in fostering public trust and enhancing the quality of housing for citizens.

Once considered one of Ghana’s underperforming state-owned entities, SHC’s journey to success began seven years ago under the visionary leadership of Mr. Kwabena Ampofo Appiah. Through strategic reforms and innovative management practices, the company has catapulted to the forefront of the housing sector, contributing significantly to Ghana’s economic growth.

SHC’s transformation is all the more remarkable given its tumultuous past. In 2017, the company was on the brink of collapse, plagued by mismanagement and corruption. However, with the advent of the Akufo-Addo administration, SHC underwent a comprehensive overhaul, culminating in its current status as a model of excellence.

Under Mr. Appiah’s leadership, SHC has implemented numerous groundbreaking projects, including the construction of over 10,000 affordable housing units across the country. This achievement has not only addressed Ghana’s housing deficit but also provided employment opportunities for thousands of Ghanaians.

The company’s commitment to excellence has earned it numerous accolades, including the “Best State-Owned Enterprise” award at the 2022 Ghana Business Awards. SHC’s success has also been recognized internationally, with the company receiving the “African Housing Company of the Year” award at the 2023 African Real Estate Awards.

As SIGA continues to champion excellence in Ghana’s public sector, SHC’s remarkable turnaround serves as a beacon of hope for other state-owned enterprises striving for greatness.
