Widows Condemn John Dumelo’s Attack on Lydia Seyram Alhassan
The Widows Association in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has strongly condemned the inflammatory allegations made by National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Mr. John Dumelo, against Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the current Member of Parliament and Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources.
During a recent TV3 program, Mr. Dumelo made unsubstantiated claims that Hon. Alhassan was responsible for her late husband’s death, sparking widespread outrage among widows and women across the nation.
The Widows Association views Mr. Dumelo’s comments as an attack on all widows in Ghana, perpetuating harmful stereotypes and stigmatization. They praised Hon. Alhassan’s strength and resilience in the face of personal tragedy, emerging as a dedicated public servant and symbol of empowerment for widows.
The association stands in solidarity with Hon. Alhassan, supporting any legal action she may take to defend her reputation and seek justice. They called on Ghanaians to reject such divisive rhetoric and promote a society where widows and women are treated with respect and dignity.
This condemnation comes as the latest development in the ongoing controversy surrounding Mr. Dumelo’s allegations, with many calling for an apology and retracting of his statements.
