Off-Duty Police Officer Arrested for Alleged Murder in Accra
A shocking incident occurred in Accra on Sunday, August 18, 2024, when an off-duty police officer allegedly shot and killed a male adult, identified as Stanley Ahadzi, at Koans Estate near Kuntunse.
According to reports, the incident happened around 4:00 am following a dispute over a ride-hailing fare between the deceased and General Constable Smith Gyeke, who was driving for a ride-hailing service. The confrontation turned deadly, resulting in the shooting of Ahadzi.
The police have arrested Gyeke and are currently holding him in custody as part of their investigation into the incident. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.
In a show of solidarity and commitment to justice, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) visited the family of the deceased to offer condolences and assure them of a thorough investigation. A police clinical psychologist and other officers have also been assigned to support the family during this difficult time.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice is served, stating that the officer involved will face the full force of the law.
