Omane Boamah Urges Vigilance During Electoral Commission’s Mop-Up Voter Registration Exercise
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its party agents to be extra vigilant during the Electoral Commission’s (EC) upcoming mop-up voter registration exercise, scheduled for August 1-3, 2024. The exercise aims to register 50,000 to 70,000 new voters, targeting individuals who turned 18 after the recent limited voter registration and those who missed the previous registration opportunity.
Dr. Omane Boamah, NDC’s Director of Elections, emphasized the need for vigilance, citing concerns about the current voter register, which he described as “sick.” He highlighted issues with stolen and un-retrieved Biometric Voter Registration laptops, unaddressed concerns about the EC’s figures, and potential gerrymandering.
The NDC has repeatedly called for a transparent and comprehensive audit of the entire voter register. Dr. Boamah urged NDC agents to closely monitor the process, ensure the sanctity of the exercise, and protect Ghana’s democracy.
