Amankwanor Bags 10 Years In The Cooler…Over Double Land Sale
The Asamankese Circuit Court, presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams, has sentenced Kwadwo Amankwanor to 10 years’ hard labor for selling the same plot of land to two different buyers. Amankwanor pleaded guilty to the charge, which violates Section 277(2) of the Land Act 2020 (Act 1036).
According to Prosecutor Inspector Samuel Owusu, the complainant, a fashion designer from Dobro near Nsawam, purchased the land from Amankwanor in 2021 for Gh¢4,000. The complainant spent an additional Gh¢2,000 on land documents. In 2023, she built a Gh¢30,000 single-room self-contained apartment on the land.
However, when she visited the site, she discovered that her structure had been demolished. An investigation revealed that Amankwanor had sold the same land to another buyer, Quaye, eight years prior, and had even prepared documents for him.
The court fined Amankwanor Gh¢4,500 with interest and ordered him to pay Gh¢6,000 in compensation to the complainant.
