Accra, June 1 – The Forestry Commission has announced plans to plant 10 million young trees across the country on June 7th, as part of the Green Ghana initiative. The Central Region has been allocated 6,000 trees, with a focus on revamping 80% of lost trees and other areas of importance.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Mr. John Allotey, the Commission has been impressed with the commitment and support shown by citizens in the Central Region over the years in recovering depleted forest reserves and water bodies.

Mr. Allotey, accompanied by the Central Regional Manager, Mr. Bennet Ntiamoah, and other departmental heads, paid a courtesy visit to the Central Region Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, to discuss preparations for the initiative.

“It’s time to inspect the planted trees and revamp the dying ones,” Mr. Allotey said. “We have records of the citizenry in Central Region showing commitment and support over the years in recovering the depleted forest reserve and water bodies for the benefit of all.”

The Regional Minister, Mrs. Marigold Assan, assured the Commission of her full support and commitment to the project, urging all to come out and make Ghana and the Central Region greener.

The initiative aims to revamp dying trees, restore lost forests, and promote environmental sustainability. The 20% of trees not allocated to revamping lost trees will be distributed to available spaces requiring fruit-bearing trees and ornamental plants.
