Presidential Convoy Accidents: Journalist Calls for Minimized Speeding to Save Lives

Accra, Ghana – In the wake of recent accidents involving presidential convoys, a journalist has raised concerns about the excessive speeding of these vehicles on Ghana’s roads. Tweneboah Koduah, a regional correspondent for Kessben TV, has called on the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to take action to minimize the speeding of presidential convoys, which has resulted in the loss of lives, including security officers and government officials.

Koduah noted that while security reasons may necessitate speedy travel, the lives of staffers and their families must also be considered. He cited numerous accidents involving presidential convoys, including a recent incident on May 19, 2024, which claimed one life. Similar accidents have occurred during previous administrations, resulting in the loss of multiple lives.

The journalist emphasized the need for proper checks and control by the MTTD to educate citizens and presidential staffers on road safety. He also suggested that the presidential protocol could mitigate the over-speeding on Ghana’s deplorable roads by minimizing the use of convoys and utilizing alternative modes of transportation, such as flights, when possible.

Koduah’s appeal comes as Ghana grapples with the consequences of excessive speeding by presidential convoys. The government has been urged to take measures to ensure road safety and prevent further loss of lives.
