Osei-Owusu expresses disappointment over Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s departure
First Deputy Speaker and Bekwai MP, Joseph Osei-Owusu, expresses disappointment at Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s resignation. He admired Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s leadership and wished he had stayed. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu voluntarily stepped down during a crucial majority group meeting on February 21, convened by President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra.
Amidst growing tensions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary group, a meeting was convened, with most members in attendance. These tensions stemmed from reports suggesting a potential replacement of Kyei Mensah-Bonsu with Alexander Afenyo-Markin, leading to internal strife.
Speaking to reporters in Parliament on Thursday, February 22, the MP representing Bekwai expressed his views. Addressing journalists in Parliament, on Thursday, February 22, the MP for Bekwai said, “I am personally disappointed that Kyei decided to stand down, he has been a fantastic leader, and he is an extremely hardworking person and I would have wished that he stayed on to the end.”
Asked if the outgoing Majority Leader was forced to resign, the First Deputy Speaker shot it down, stressing that he has no basis to make such conclusions.
“I don’t have any such information, I have no basis for that conclusion,” he said..
.When questioned about the departure of the outgoing Majority Leader, the First Deputy Speaker dismissed the suggestion, emphasizing that there is no evidence to support such conclusions.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader, was appointed as the Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Manifesto Committee shortly after his resignation. The committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of the party’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos and engaging stakeholders to develop a practical 2024 manifesto.
