Mandatory Shoe Removal at Kotoka, other airports in Ghana

In a bid to enhance security measures at all airports in Ghana, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has issued a directive for all persons, including passengers, to remove their shoes at security screening points with immediate effect.

The directive, in accordance with GCAA’s mandate to safeguard air transport, life, and property, is aimed at ensuring thorough screening of individuals and their belongings before entering sterile or security restricted areas within the airport premises.

Section 17.4.5(1) of the Ghana Civil Aviation (Aviation Security) Directives clearly states that no person shall enter a sterile area or a security restricted area without having their person or carry-on baggage, goods, or other articles screened.

Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) is urging the general public to cooperate with the new security measure for a seamless facilitation process at all airports. The removal of shoes at security screening points is crucial for the safety and security of all passengers and airport personnel.

GACL assures the public that this directive is in line with international aviation security standards and is necessary to maintain the highest level of safety and security within the airport premises. Passengers are advised to comply with the directive and follow the instructions of airport security personnel for a smooth and efficient screening process.

For any inquiries or concerns regarding the mandatory removal of shoes at security screening points, passengers are encouraged to contact the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority or Ghana Airports Company Limited for further information.
