NDC Chases Bawumia over Non-existing Keta Fish Landing Site

In a public lecture held at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) on February 7th, 2024, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and Flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), made a misleading claim regarding the establishment of a fish landing site in Keta, according to the Volta Regional Communication Office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC has debunked this claim, stating that there is no evidence to support the existence of a fish landing site project in Keta or anywhere else in the Volta Region. The deliberate misrepresentation of facts by the NPP Flagbearer not only misleads the public but also demonstrates a disregard for the truth.

The mention of a fish landing site for Keta was initially made on November 7th, 2019, during the Hogbetsotso Festival of the Anlos by Dr. Archibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, on behalf of the President. Subsequently, community engagements were held in Keta in October 2020, involving the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, the Volta Regional Minister, representatives from the Transport Ministry, and the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA) to create awareness about the project. Additionally, Friends of the Nation, along with representatives of the Keta Municipal Assembly, held community engagements in Kedzikope in March 2023 to discuss the potential benefits of the project.

The NDC expresses disappointment but not surprise at the NPP Flagbearer’s resort to spreading lies and misinformation for political gain, particularly concerning a region as important to Ghana’s socio-economic fabric as the Volta Region. These deceptive tactics erode the trust of the electorate and disrespect the people’s right to accurate information.

The NDC emphasizes the need for honest and transparent leadership, rejecting false promises and deception aimed at political advantage. They criticize the Vice President’s role as Chairman of the Economic Management Team (EMT), stating that he has failed to maintain the country’s economy on a solid footing.

The NDC calls on the NPP and Dr. Bawumia to show respect to the people of Ghana by refraining from spreading falsehoods in public addresses. They also urge the media and the public to remain vigilant and scrutinize the claims made by all political leaders, ensuring that only the truth prevails in the upcoming 2024 Elections.

The NDC remains dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and honesty in governance. They vow to continue exposing and challenging any attempts to mislead the public for political gain. The NDC calls on all well-meaning citizens to join them in the pursuit of a more truthful and responsible political landscape in Ghana.
