Contrary to rumors circulating about the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Rev. Dr. Ammyshaddai Owusu-Amoah fleeing the country to avoid investigations, themetrolensonline.com can confirm that he is in town and fulfilling his official duties as usual.

On Thursday afternoon, at approximately 1:35 pm, Dr. Ammyshaddai Owusu-Amoah arrived at the Ring Road Central branch of the GRA in his official vehicle, accompanied by an aide, a bodyguard, and a motorcade. He greeted the few staff members on duty and proceeded into the building, where he is believed to have had a meeting with the branch’s management. After spending about 20 minutes inside, he returned to his car.

During an interview with Kwaku Owusu Agyei Frimpong (Pato) on Accra-based Original FM, Dr. Owusu-Amoah confirmed that he is currently in town and has been working, although he is on a 6-day leave. He dismissed claims of absconding and clarified that there were no restrictions on his travel imposed by the President’s investigative order.

Expressing his disappointment in Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Dr. Owusu-Amoah called for an apology for the false allegations made against him and the government.

Earlier this week, Ablakwa had alleged that the Commissioner-General had left the country with his family due to the ongoing audit of the GRA/SML Contract. However, Dr. Owusu-Amoah refused to entertain these allegations, maintaining that he has been present and fulfilling his duties as required.

“I have not run away. There is no cause to run away, so nobody should even think that I’ve run away. As you can see, I’m here working to push taxes,” emphasized the Commissioner-General.

Dr. Owusu-Amoah declined to comment on the current state of the GRA/SML Contract, which is currently under investigation by KPMG.

This recent development aims to put an end to the allegations made by Ablakwa, who claimed that the GRA boss left the country with the support and collaboration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The GRA/SML Contract is a partnership between the GRA and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML), where SML is entitled to $100 million per annum upon fulfilling its contractual obligations.
