Bawku Naba confident in Bawumia’s leadership

Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, the Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area, has expressed confidence in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership, anticipating a peaceful country under his presidency in Ghana. The Bawkunaba noted that, after closely observing Vice-President Bawumia’s political progress, he has displayed humility, respect, calmness, unity, and genuine commitment to the people—qualities essential for effective leadership.

During a visit by the Vice-President, Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka, in a speech read on his behalf, expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s ability to bring an end to the prolonged Bawku conflict, ultimately preserving lives and property.
He stated, “I want it to go down in record that it was Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who brought finality to the Bawku conflict and made Kusaasis and Mamprusis see themselves as brothers and sisters working together for the progress of Kusaug and Mamprugu.”

“This is task I am assigning you and I have no doubt that you and can and will successfully deliver this to the glory of Kusaug and Mamprugu in particular and Ghana as a whole,” he added.
The Bawkunaba congratulated the Vice-President, referring to him as his son, for winning the flagbearership contest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and becoming the first son of the North to be the Presidential Candidate of the party.

He recalled Dr. Bawumia’s visit to the Bawku palace when he was selected as the Running Mate of the NPP, expressing no surprise that the Vice-President returned to inform him about his success in the NPP.

“As my son, this is something that I am happy about. The Kusaug Traditional Area and the people of Kusaug, wish you well on this journey. I want to also thank you for this particular visit, which is one of many since you assumed the high office of Vice President of the Republic in 2017,” he noted.

Dr. Bawumia, whose visit signifies an acknowledgment of Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the only overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area,  expressed happiness about the warm welcome at the Bawku palace.

He expressed concern about the devastating conflicts between Kusasis and Mamprusis over Chieftaincy in the area, and urged the elders to strive for peace and development, emphasizing his commitment to fostering harmony between the two communities.
“As a son of the North, I am very pained by the conflict that we have in Bawku between Kusasis and Mamprusis over Chieftaincy. This conflict has led to needless loss of lives and disrupted economic activity and development in Bawku.

It is really sad. Fundamentally, we are really one people. We have intermarried over the years and our languages are very similar. I believe with every bone in my body that it is possible to have peace and harmony between  Kusasis and Mamprusis in Bawku and I will work towards that. We have to work towards. It is possible!!!” he expressed worry.

He also addressed the constitutional guidelines for resolving chieftaincy disputes, emphasizing that violence and killing cannot resolve such issues. Dr. Bawumia pledged to respect the constitution as President and ensure a peaceful and secure state in Ghana.
