25 Stakeholders Honored at 2023 National Tourism Awards
Accra, Ghana – The 2023 edition of the National Tourism Awards was a night filled with celebration, as twenty-five outstanding individuals from the tourism sector were recognized for their contributions. The event, held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, also marked the 50th anniversary of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Dubbed the honorary edition, the awards ceremony aimed to appreciate and acknowledge the remarkable efforts of individuals in the tourism sector. Awards were presented in various categories, including tourism investments, arts, tour guiding, tour operation, and academia.
Among the esteemed awardees were musician Okyeame Kwame, honored for his Artistic Support to the Tourism Industry, Kojo Bentum for Active Promotion of Tourism, Kwaku Passah for Contribution to Tourism Development, Wode Maya for Social Media Marketing, and Ibrahim Mahama for Artistic Support to Tourism.
Other notable recipients included Lucas Candid Mensah for Tourism Promotion – Cape Coast Oguaa, Enimil Ashon for Tourism Promotion, and Bryan Acheampong for Tourism Investment, among others.
The special guest of honor, Neenyi Ghartey VII, the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, praised the Ghana Tourism Authority for its efforts in showcasing Ghana’s rich tourism, arts, and culture.
Dr. Mohammed Awal, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, emphasized the importance of customer service in the tourism ecosystem during his address. He urged all players in the industry, including hotel owners, restaurant owners, and those in the hospitality sector, to prioritize excellent customer service. He also called for collaboration between the Ghana Tourism Authority and the private sector to improve customer care.
The event was further enhanced by captivating musical performances from Naa Amanua of Wulomei fame, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, Okyeame Kwame, and Samini.
The highlight of the evening was the well-deserved recognition of Akwasi Agyemang, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, for his unwavering dedication and hard work in the development of tourism in Ghana.
The National Tourism Awards, established by the Ghana Tourism Authority in 1997, serves as a platform to honor excellence and outstanding performance in the tourism sector.
