AFCON Trophy Unveiled in Ghana, Igniting Excitement for the Upcoming Tournament
Accra, Ghana – The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy was unveiled in Ghana on Monday, November 27, as part of its tour across selected countries. This initiative, made possible by the title sponsors of the competition, TotalEnergies, aims to build anticipation and momentum leading up to the 34th edition of the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.
Accra had the privilege of hosting the trophy for two days, as pre-tournament activities continued to captivate football enthusiasts. The decision to take the trophy on a tour was part of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) plan to engage fans and generate excitement ahead of the highly anticipated event.
Hussein Nsour, speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of TotalEnergies, expressed his pride in being part of this tour and his hopes that it would ignite passion among fans for the Africa Cup of Nations. He emphasized the company’s excitement for the tournament and their support for the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, in their quest to bring the trophy back home.
“We are proud to be part of this tour and we hope that it will ignite your passion for the Africa Cup of Nations. We look forward to the tournament where we will witness the best African football and we will cheer for our beloved Black Stars, who are ready to make us proud and to bring the trophy back home,” Nsour stated.
Stephen Appiah, Brand Ambassador for TotalEnergies, also expressed his joy at the presence of the trophy, symbolizing hope for the upcoming tournament.
“The trophy being here symbolizes hope because we know what is going to happen next year from January to February. This is a trophy that I competed and fought for. I didn’t have the chance to lift it, and seeing it here, I am so happy,” Appiah shared.
The 2023 AFCON is scheduled to take place from Saturday, January 13, to Sunday, February 11, 2024. As the trophy continues its tour, the excitement and anticipation for the tournament are steadily building, promising a month-long spectacle of African football excellence and unforgettable moments.
