Ga Mannye’s Funeral: Greater Accra to Observe Commercial Activity Suspension on Saturday Only
Earlier reports by the Metro Lens Newspaper stating that residents of the Ga State (Accra) were to remain indoors from 6pm on 24th to 26th October have been revised. This change came after the Ga Traditional Council held a press conference on Tuesday, 24th October 2023, to review the earlier plans that prohibited people from moving out after 6pm and closing shops from 26th to 30th.
Funeral preparations for the late Ga Mannye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III, are in full swing as the Ga Traditional Council unveils the comprehensive program for the burial. The program aims to provide clarity and ensure the participation of the Ga community and all Ghanaians in honoring the esteemed Queen.
Addressing recent speculations and concerns, the Ga Traditional Council affirms that the funeral will proceed as planned, paying tribute to the remarkable legacy and contributions of Naa Dedei Omaedru III. The council has informed the government, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries both within Ghana and abroad, who have expressed their deep reverence and homage to the late Queen.
On Saturday, 28th October 2023, all commercial activities within Greater Accra will be suspended as a mark of solemn respect and final farewell to Naa Dedei Omaedru III. This gesture highlights the significance of the funeral and the impact of the late Queen’s life on the community.

The program of activities for the burial has been outlined by the Ga Traditional Council. Today, Asafo companies will parade the streets amidst the firing of musketry. Tomorrow, market women will present foodstuffs and other items to the Ga Traditional Council, accompanied by cultural displays, music, dance, and storytelling. The following day, cultural displays and performances will continue with Asafatsemei and Asafoianyemei. On Friday, Asafo companies will display in the morning, followed by a short service for the repose of the soul of Ga Manye conducted by the clergy in the evening. Cultural displays, music, dance, and storytelling will continue throughout the night.
The burial day, Saturday, 28th October 2023, will begin with an interdenominational burial service from 9am to 11am. This will be followed by traditional burial rites, including the procession
