President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to visit the areas affected by the recent spillage from the Akosombo Dam. The President, who just returned from a 4-day visit to the United States, will tour the districts severely hit by the flooding caused by the dam spillage.

The visit is aimed at showing solidarity with the victims and assessing the extent of the damage caused by the flooding. The President will be accompanied by members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee, which was established to coordinate the government’s response to the flooding and provide relief to those affected.

The spillage from the Akosombo Dam has resulted in widespread flooding, forcing many communities in the north, south, and Central Tongu districts of the Volta Region to evacuate. Residents have been left with no choice but to salvage what remains of their belongings.

The Comboni Hospital staff, for instance, had to evacuate their quarters and seek shelter under a pavilion due to the rising water levels. Patients have also been discharged, with only ten in critical condition remaining. If the water levels do not recede soon, even these critical patients may have to be discharged.

The President’s visit is expected to bring some relief to the affected communities, as the government continues to work towards addressing the situation. The Inter-Ministerial Committee has been actively involved in coordinating efforts to provide assistance and support to those affected by the flooding.

The President’s visit will not only provide an opportunity to assess the damage caused by the spillage but also to interact with the affected individuals and communities. It is expected that this visit will help inform the government’s response and aid in the development of effective strategies to prevent such incidents in the future.

The government has already begun taking steps to address the issue, and the President’s visit is a testament to its commitment to ensuring the well-being of its citizens. The Inter-Ministerial Committee will continue to work tirelessly to provide relief and support to those affected by the flooding.

President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the affected areas signifies his personal concern for the well-being of the affected individuals and his determination to provide the necessary support to help them recover from this unfortunate incident.
