Finance Minister is in charge of the economy; he makes final decisions – Alan Kyerematen

Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen has dispelled the notion that the Economic Management Team of the government and its members have the power to take final decisions on the management of the economy.

Alan Kyerematen, yesterday resigned from the NPP party to contest next year’s Presidential election as Independent Candidate, following his withdrawal from the NPP flagbearership race, after placing third in the party’s Special Delegates election last month.

In an interview with UTV, following his resignation, Alan, who was Trade Minister for six years and a member of the Economic Management Team, vehemently rejected suggestion that by being a member of the EMT, he is responsible for the economic decisions of the country, by insisting that the Finance Minister makes the final call.

“The Minister of Finance is the one who oversees the economy. He is in charge and he takes the final decision,” said Alan Kyerematen.

“I can only make contributions but he makes the final decision.
I cannot take responsibility for decisions made by the finance Minuster. Is that what you are asking me to do?,” he added.

By distancing himself from decisions of the Finance Minister, Alan Kyerematen clearly sought to lay the blame of the country’s present economic challenges at the doorstep of the Finance Minister, and absolved himself of any blame for any of the economic challenges.

Prior to contesting the NPP flagbearership, Alan Kyerematen resigned as Minister of Trade and Industry earlier this year, after being in charge of the Ministry for six years.
