ZOOMLION RESPONDS TO PAC CHAIRMAN’S COMMENTS
By: Isaac Boamah-Darko
Zoomlion Ghana Limited has issued a press statement in response to comments made by the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi. The company expresses its regret regarding the media publications that cautioned Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) against renewing contracts with Zoomlion.
The management of Zoomlion finds it unfortunate that such a directive would be given without bringing both parties together to discuss any contractual issues. The company emphasizes its commitment to operating with integrity and professionalism, consistently upholding its contractual obligations with the MMDAs.
Contrary to the publication suggesting that Parliament had sanctioned the non-renewal of Zoomlion’s waste management contracts, the company is unaware of any such indication from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development, or any other contracting parties. Furthermore, Parliament is not a party to the existing contract.
Zoomlion participated in a PAC hearing on June 8, 2022, where it addressed questions and provided comprehensive explanations with evidence regarding issues raised in the Auditor General’s report. The company presented substantial evidence demonstrating its commitment to fulfilling contractual obligations to the MMDAs.
Since the PAC hearing, there have been no adverse reports or further queries suggesting any irregularities with Zoomlion’s performance. This indicates that the PAC was satisfied with the explanations and evidence provided during the hearing. The company finds it surprising to hear damaging reportage from the Chair of the PAC.
Zoomlion believes that open and constructive dialogue is in the best interest of all parties involved, rather than resorting to actions and pronouncements that may tarnish the company’s image. Over the years, Zoomlion has consistently delivered world-class waste management services, resulting in a significant reduction in sanitation-related health issues across the country.
The company remains committed to upholding the highest standards of service delivery and compliance with all contractual obligations. It is open to continued collaboration and dialogue with relevant authorities to address any concerns and ensure the provision of exceptional waste management services.
Zoomlion is focused on its transformational agenda of establishing state-of-the-art waste recycling plants, waste water treatment plants, and medical waste treatment plants across all sixteen regions of Ghana. The company is also launching its “change your borla style” E-payment system to digitize payment for waste collection, making it seamless and easy for Ghanaians.
Zoomlion Ghana Limited is a responsible corporate entity that promotes environmental sanitation with integrity. The company views such publications as a deliberate attempt to tarnish its hard-earned reputation both in Ghana and globally. It reassures stakeholders and the general public that it has done nothing wrong and calls on the media to report national issues against the company in a decorous manner.
