Kwahu Pepease Elders Expose Amankwa Biritwum As Imposter
The Elders of the Bretuo family of Kwahu Pepease under the Kwahu Paramountcy in the Eastern Region say one Amankwa Biritwum who claimed to be the family head of the Pepease–Santase clan is an imposter since there is no clan as such in the area, urging the public to stop dealing with him.
According to the family head [Abusuapanin] of the Bretuo clan of Pepease, Opanin Kwaku Agyapong, there is no tribe known as the “Santase clan” at Pepease since the community existed that they are mandated to occupy the stool as speculated.
Opanin Kwaku Agyapong, made these comments when addressing a press conference at Pepease, over the weekend following a judgment by the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs (NHC) declaring the enstoolment of Nana Bonsu Ayirepe from the Bretuo family as Kwahu Pepeasehene as null and void, the town has no chief.
After the NHC ruling, the said Mr. Amankwa Biritwum who is parading himself as the Abusuapanin of Santanse, went on the radio to say Nana Osei Bonsu Ayirepe is not the royal from the Bretuo family, therefore he doesn’t qualify to be a chief of the area.
He also explained that Nana Bonsu wasn’t rightfully nominated to be installed as the chief of Kwahu Pepease, following controversies surrounding his installation after holding the position for the past seven years.
But in reaction to the NHC ruling, and the claims made by Mr. Amankwa, the Bretuo-Abusuapanin of Pepease, Opanin Kwaku Agyapong said his outfit in consultation with the family members will present a nominee to contest for the Pepease stool and presented to the Queen-mother, Nana Oforiwah Pokua, who will then present him to the kingmakers, to follow the process as prescribed by Akan custom.
Opanin Kwaku Agyapong further refutes the claims that Nana Bonsu is not a royal to occupy the Pepease stool, adding that Nana Bonsu Ayirepe is a royal from the Bretuo clan, who was rightfully nominated and endorsed by the kingmakers before he was installed as the chief of the area.
He said the Tweneasehene of the Kwahu Paramountcy has taken over the palace as preparations are underway to present a nominee to be installed as the chief of the town.
