Former Black Queens goalkeeper, Memunatu Sulemana homeless
Former Black Queens goalkeeper, Memunatu Sulemana, finds herself in a dire situation as she is left homeless, according to investigations conducted by Original 91.9 FM. The ex-national goalkeeper, known for her exceptional skills, is now forced to sleep on a table at the Keneshie bus terminal due to financial constraints that prevented her from renewing her rent.
In an exclusive interview with Original FM, Sulemana expressed her frustration, stating, “My rent has expired, and despite seeking assistance from the leaders at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), they have not been willing to help me. As a result, I have been evicted.”
Accompanied by our reporter, Ohene Nana Kwame Osei, we toured Sulemana’s makeshift abode. With tears in her eyes, she pleaded with the management of the Ghana Football Association to intervene and rescue her from the untold hardship she is currently enduring.
The 45-year-old former goalkeeper revealed that her family has abandoned her, leaving her feeling utterly helpless. She emphasized that without assistance from the football governing body in Ghana, her situation would remain dire.
Sulemana, who represented Ghana in the FIFA Women’s World Cups of 1999, 2003, and 2007, recalled the sacrifices she made for the love of her country. She tearfully revealed that at one point in her professional career, she had to make the painful decision to abort a pregnancy in order to participate in a national team tournament.
“I was taken by my grandmother and head coach to a specialist who performed the procedure to remove the twin babies. At that time, I was young and naive,” she sobbed.
The story of Memunatu Sulemana’s homelessness has shed light on the challenges faced by former athletes, particularly those who have dedicated their lives to representing their country. It serves as a reminder that despite their contributions to the nation’s sporting success, these individuals often find themselves forgotten and unsupported.
