Mfantseman MP Criticized for Misguided Utilization of Funds and Insensitivity to Traders in Mankessim
Mankessim, 21st August 2023 – The Young Patriots of Mfantseman have expressed their concerns over the Member of Parliament’s decision to renovate the Mankessim roundabout, describing it as misplaced, misguided, ill-timed, and politically and economically unwise. The MP is facing criticism for allocating a substantial amount of funds for this renovation project, despite the pressing issues faced by the people of Mfantseman.
It is worth noting that in 2019, an astonishing GHC86,000 was spent on the renovation of the Mankessim roundabout. Now, the MP intends to allocate an additional GHC200,000 (2 billion old cedis) for another renovation exercise. This raises questions about the government’s priorities and the motivation behind such repeated renovations.
The Young Patriots of Mfantseman are calling on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who is responsible for the municipality, to clarify whether he is aware of and supports the MP’s renovation agenda. There are concerns about the procurement processes and tendering that were undertaken for this project.
The group strongly opposes the renovation exercise and urges the MP to reconsider her decision. They believe that these resources could be better directed towards more important areas that would benefit the community as a whole.
Interestingly, members of the public in Mankessim have also voiced their dissatisfaction with the misuse of public funds. They have emphasized the need for prudent resource management and have called for the allocated GHC200,000 (2 billion old cedis) to be used to address the unsanitary conditions in a section of the Mankessim market, which is infested with maggots and mud.
The people of Mfantseman demand that the MP reassess her priorities and focus on addressing the challenges faced by the community, particularly the traders. The decision to renovate the roundabout demonstrates a lack of understanding of the issues at hand and contradicts the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 3, and 8.
Therefore, the roundabout renovation agenda is deemed misplaced, misguided, economically unwise, and ineffective in resolving the unsanitary conditions in parts of the market.
The Young Patriots of Mfantseman call for the immediate abandonment of this dubious renovation project.
