ECG’s “Operation Zero” in Accra East is delivering positive outcomes

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched a new nationwide initiative dubbed “Operation Zero” to increase revenue collection.

The goal of the campaign, which began on 11 July 2023 and concludes on 11 September 2023, is to collect all outstanding debts to the last Pesewa.

In an interview, the General Manager in Charge of Accra East ECG, Ing. Bismark Otoo, disclosed that consumers in the region owe approximately GHC 400 million Ghana Cedis, and that GHC 60 million has been recovered since the campaign began.

According to him, the campaign would go a long way toward improving the Electricity Company of Ghana’s customer service operations.

Ing. Otoo explained further that ECG’s two-month “Operation Zero” campaign aims to collect all customer debts to the absolute minimum.

During the two-month operation, he added, exhaustive inspections will be conducted at the homes of customers and in all establishments that use electricity. This exhaustive investigation aims to identify any outstanding payments and facilitate their recovery.

In addition, the ECG will work closely with the security services to ensure the seamless execution of the operation. It was emphasized that any interference with the procedure will lead to apprehension and prosecution of the individuals involved. Furthermore, the ECG has implemented a cashless system for all company revenue, ensuring that payments are made electronically.

Moreover, customers who have not yet received their bills are requested to make advance payments, which will be duly credited. This arrangement ensures that customers continue to receive essential services while allowing for the active involvement of senior management and employees.

Operation Zero serves as a crucial component of ECG’s initiatives to collect overdue electricity bill payments. As a result, the Electricity Company of Ghana urges the public to be mindful of their electricity consumption in the country.
