Court Orders Black Sherif to Pay GH¢229,500 in Rent Arrears Over Accra Residence

The District Court at Adentan Fafraha in the Greater Accra Region has ordered award-winning Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, to pay a total of GH¢229,500 in rent arrears relating to his residence in Accra.

The order followed an application for substituted service filed after several unsuccessful attempts to personally serve the musician with court documents. The court subsequently directed that all legal processes be posted on the court’s notice board and at the property in question, located at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estate, Adjiriganor.

The suit was filed by the property owner, Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who claims that Black Sherif has failed to pay rent on the apartment since August 2024. According to the statement of claim, the outstanding amount has continued to attract interest at the prevailing bank rate.

In addition to settling the accumulated arrears, the court further ordered the musician to continue paying monthly rent of $1,700, converted into Ghana cedis, until he vacates the property.

The court also ruled that the case may proceed in the absence of Black Sherif, paving the way for further legal action should he fail to comply with the orders.
